Format A:  8-Week Therapy Group
Rollercoasters® has traditionally been offered as structured therapy format for small groups over an eight-session program.  There are two versions of the 8-Week Format:

  • Primary curriculum addresses the needs of 5-8 year olds through innovative activities, games, discussions and role-plays.  The special needs of younger children are addressed throughout the program.
  • Intermediate curriculum for children ages 9-12 years old serves as a model for the Primary version.  It covers the same issues (see Rollercoasters® Themes) while utilizing language and activities relevant to older children.

Format B:  4-Hour Education Group
Rollercoasters® is now available as a one time 4-hour education opportunity for children.  This format is often offered at the same time adults are attending the TransParenting®  Parent education program.  There are three versions of the 4-Hour Format:

  • Primary curriculum for children ages 5-8 yeas old is an opportunity for normalization.  The 4-Hour class is filled with interactive activities, games and role-plays to help these young children begin adjustment to family change; Lots of breaks are included to accommodate short attention span.
  • Intermediate curriculum provides normalization and an introduction to healing for 9-12 year olds.  The 4-Hour class is filled with innovative activities, games, discussions and role-plays focused exclusively on education. 
  • Teen curriculum provides an chance to discuss the issues being faced now and concerns about upcoming challenges.  The 4-Hour class has some structured activities and a video component to stimulate discussion.
